Learn the real process from a working soap maker—clearly, safely, and with your own hands in the Greenwings studio.

Anyone Can Learn to Make Soap. Here Is Where to Begin.

There is a moment in soap making—usually somewhere around trace, when the oils and lye emulsify and the batter thickens to the consistency of custard—when the chemistry becomes unmistakably craft. You stop following steps and start reading the batch. You adjust. You respond. That moment is where most people fall in love with the process.

TJ Varghese of Greenwings has been teaching soap making for years, alongside running his own small-batch studio in Venjaramoodu, Thiruvananthapuram. He teaches the same method he uses every day—no simplified version for beginners, no glossed-over safety steps. The real process, explained clearly.

Why learn from a working soap maker?

There is a significant difference between a class taught from a manual and one taught by someone who made a batch that morning. TJ brings fifteen years of live observation to the workshop—including every mistake, unexpected result, and discovery that came from paying close attention to what the ingredients were doing.

The two courses

Basic Artisanal Soap Making · 1 Day

A hands-on introduction to cold process soap making. Learn safe lye handling, oil ratios and superfat, botanical infusion, trace, pouring, unmoulding, and curing. You take home bars you made yourself and a foundation you can build on independently.

Ideal for: beginners, hobbyists, natural-skincare explorers, and anyone ready to move from watching to making.

Advanced Natural Cosmetics · 2 Days

A deeper course covering natural balms, creams, and cosmetic formulations alongside more advanced soap techniques. Work with a wider range of botanicals and learn to formulate for different skin types.

Ideal for: experienced makers and those considering a small home business.

Both courses are held in small groups, are fully hands-on, and carry a certificate of completion.

Who attends?

Greenwings training attracts a wonderfully mixed group—home crafters, Ayurvedic practitioners, young entrepreneurs looking to start a soap business, mothers wanting to make something safer for their families, and people who simply want to learn something real with their hands.

If you are in Thiruvananthapuram, or willing to travel to Kerala for a day or two well spent, this is worth your time.
